CPO Richard Humphreys

Warrant Officer Second Class Richard Humphreys joined the Royal Navy in 2010 as a Marine Engineer Submariner at the age of 34. Bringing a wealth of experience from previous careers, he quickly distinguished himself following initial training and his posting to HMS Vengeance. Over the next fifteen years, he served on all four Vanguard Class submarines, ultimately qualifying as a Category A Nuclear Watchkeeper on the ‘bombers’.

Having earned his Silver Bomber Pin for completing over 800 days beneath the waves on Continuous at Sea Deterrent patrols, Richard has recently moved to the Submarine Flotilla Marine Engineering technical office, supporting the fleet from the waterfront during an 18-month inboard draft. He will return to operational duty on the platforms in 2028.

During his time ashore, Richard has gained a following on social media, sharing one-minute ‘Sub Life’ videos each Wednesday on British Forces TV via TikTok and Facebook — a light-hearted glimpse into submarine life that may well impact future recruitment.
